Lucy is swept away by the sugary strings of "Good Night", but Mr Starkey's sweet dream tonight is to get back to his "Octopus's Garden" ('in a yeller submarine, a yeller submarine...').

The slowed opening vocal accompanying said strings floats you down gently from the sky to the seabed. According to Giles Martin, the first attempt was with bits of onion, but it sounded 'too creepy'.

We couldn't have dear old Uncle Ringo sounding creepy, could we now?!!

One of his very own drum flails brings in the instrumentation and brings up the speed into the familiar, happy and safe Abbey Road rendition.

I'd ask my friends to come and see-ee
Tharrocterpus's garden with me...

For the return voyage, mind you, the silly submarine sounds continue to swim about: others are slid in from elsewhere — and even Rita's along for the ride. This being Our Richie's Starr turn on LOVE, the Martins took the opportunity to play up and play around with his drums extensively. And as for Our Johnny, probably not even he could say what he was babbling on about through the 'mermaid chorus':

That's great, that:
Beautiful...
Sen-sational...
Fab!

But, all good dream trips must come to an end. Could've been a far ruder awakening, too, as we're washed up onto a tropical beach on the gentle swell of the Sun King's surf:

A-h-h-h-h-h-h...
